Whilst I was planning my USA Canada trip over the last year like many people do , I read all sorts of publications online & old school magazines on other peoples rides and travel stories & equipment. I had a thought that perhaps my ride might be worthy of publication in a magazine?

So having been an avid reader of RIDE for a while I contacted the Editor of Ride Magazine and told him about the trip I was planning and asked him if he would be intersted in covering my story in the magazine in some way.  To my delight he said he was interested and would have a think about how to cover the story and get back to me in a couple of weeks! Well, a couple of weeks went past and then a few more, and then a few more.

I thought perhaps he had forgotten out conversation!

Some months later whilst I was on Easter holidays with my daughter in Sardinia and staying at the beautiful La Casa Sarda near Fluminimaggiore and the picturesque seaside village of Portixeddu, I had a call from a withheld number, I answered it and it was Colin the Editor at Ride Magazine getting back to me!

He had been very busy and apologised for his late response etc (not that I was bothered, I was happy enough to be having the conversation with him! That meant he remembered and that was a good thing! ) and told me he had come up with a concept for the story!

He said he would like to do a three part story on my ride. Part 1, that’s in the magazine that’s on sale this week – looks at my pre-trip preparations! Part 2 & 3 will follow the journey and post trip thoughts!

Before I left Colin sent a photographer called Sam Christmas to meet me in London where I live to take some shots for the magazine. Sam is a London-based photographer specialising in people and the machinery that move them. Recent clients include: Barbour, Triumph, Edwin, Matchless, Volvo, GQ, Intelligent Life & The Sunday Times. Recent celebrity portraiture includes: Benicio Del Toro, Michael Fassbender,Viggo Mortensen, Mila Kunis & Vincent Cassel, GUY MARTIN……..and now me!! HA HA HA! up there with Guy! how cool!?!

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to give any more away than this at the moment, but perhaps maybe in the future I may be writing some articles for Ride magazine itself!

It’s a field of work I loved dearly love to spend more time doing and working within. As much as I love cooking, motorbikes, reading and writing about them have always been my first passion and always will be.
